The all-time Major League leader in hits, Pete Rose was an absolute nightmare for opposing pitchers throughout his career. Rose’s ability to hit to all fields along with his incredible passion for the game allowed him to develop into one of the true great players of all time. Pete was the centerpiece amongst the legendary “Big Red Machine” in Cincinnati. The powerful lineup boasted the likes of Johnny Bench, Joe Morgan and Tony Perez. Rose and the Reds led one of the most dominant stretches in baseball capturing the World Series trophies in 1975 and 1976. Pete continued with his stellar career, earning his nickname “Charlie Hustle” due to his willingness to give every ounce of energy when he stepped on the field, including running to first base after drawing a walk. Pete continued his winning ways when he landed in Philadelphia, leading the Phillies to a World Series victory in 1980.

Scandal ensued after Rose retired and Major League Baseball charged him with betting on games. He was eventually expelled from the sport altogether. To this day, Pete Rose is still banned from Major League Baseball and as such, he’s ineligible for the Baseball Hall of Fame. Although he has applied for reinstatement several times, none of his appeals was a success. Pete Rose remains one of the most interesting and popular baseball players of all time. He played the game with a passion that not seen very often in today’s athletes. He remains the all-time hits king, a standard by which all other great hitters are measured.
