Detroit Tigers Autographed Memorabilia and Collectibles

One of the most timeless teams in Major League Baseball, the Detroit Tigers is the oldest American League franchise that has never relocated or changed its name. The Tigers and the city of Detroit have long held a great companionship that has led to a huge fan following for the team. The Tigers have rewarded their fans by consistently play at a high level and bringing home four World Series championships, 11 American League Pennants, and six division titles.

The Tigers started off their early history in the hands of future Hall of Famer Ty Cobb. One of the greatest players of all time, Cobb led the Tigers to three straight AL Pennants from 1907 to 1909 but the team failed to claim a World Series title. The Tigers dropped the 1908 World Series to the Chicago Cubs that marked the last title for Chicago in Major League Baseball. Cobb enjoyed one of the most successful careers in baseball history. His career .367 batting average and 4,191 hits place him in a rarefied class of baseball’s elite.

After three failed attempts at winning the World Series, the Tigers finally broke through when they added another future Hall of Famer, Hank Greenberg, to the team. With Greenberg and a number of other star players, Detroit won the 1934 AL Pennant but fell in seven games to the St. Louis Cardinals. The 1935 season proved to be the time of triumph for the Tigers as they finally put together a team that could successfully claim the World Series title. In ’35, Greenburg won the AL MVP after batting.328 with 36 home runs and 170 RBIs, and led the Tigers to a championship win over the Chicago Cubs in the World Series.

Before experiencing a long World Series title drought, Greenburg and the Tigers claimed another championship in 1945. Greenburg returned from serving in the military just in time for the season and with teammate Hal Newhouser pitching at an elite level, the Tigers again beat the Chicago Cubs in the World Series. After winning their two World Series titles in a span of 10 years, the Tigers went over 20 years without tasting another title. It wasn’t until star pitcher Denny McLain enjoyed a season for the record books in 1968 that the Tigers would return to the mecca of Major League Baseball. McLain earned a 31-6 record, becoming the first pitcher to win over 30 games since 1934, and was unanimously voted AL MVP and Cy Young Award winner. The Tigers went on to beat the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games to claim the third World Series title in franchise history. In 1984, Detroit won its fourth title after a dominant season that saw the team lead their division continuously from beginning to end and cap it off with a title, a feat that no team had been able to accomplish since the 1927 New York Yankees.

The Tigers have put together a team that will surely contend for a fifth title. With star players like Miguel Cabrera, Victor Martinez, Justin Verlander, and Max Scherzer, the Tigers are a franchise on the cusp of reclaiming the World Series title.
