As one of the leaders of the "Big Red Machine" during the 1970s, Bench was an outstanding, durable, defensive catcher who won 10 consecutive Gold Gloves for his efforts on the field. Johnny was equally impressive with a bat, carrying a career .267 lifetime batting average with 389 homeruns and 1,376 RBI's. A complete player, Bench earned two MVP awards during his career and was named to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1989.
