His early years were with the Los Angeles Dodgers (1976-81) and the Cleveland Indians (82,83,84) before coming to the Chicago Cubs where he truly blossomed as a starting pitcher. Rick dominted hitters going 16-1 for the Cubs that season and received the National League CY Young Award. Rick won Chicago's pennant-clinching game and game one of the 1984 NLCS, but lost the decisive fifth game. Injuries and control problems hampered Sutcliffe following his great 1984 campaign.
